Disc Brakes On and Off

the Pavement

Ever wonder why we don’t see more disc brake road bikes? We did, too. That’s why we created the Fastlane. Disc brakes mean great braking in both wet and dry conditions. They also eliminate a major source of wear and tear on rims and potential overheating of tires.

We started with our proven CrossHairs steering: bigger tires get you stable steering for commuting and medium touring, while skinnier tires make steering more responsive for club rides. Our proprietary chainstay mount is elegant and light-weight, yet strong enough to withstand the forces generated by a disc brake. Plus, it doesn’t interfere with racks or fenders. Add in rack and fender mounts, clearance for 40mm tires, and there’s not a lot the Fast Lane can’t do – centuries, commuting, light touring, cyclocross – you name it. You could even build it up as a rugged city bike with a flat bar, trigger shifters, and hydraulic brakes.

Have special needs and interests? Gunnar offers a wide range of paint and frame options. When the need for custom fit is called for, you can take advantage of our “Made to Measure” version. With our Made to Measure service, you can also order horizontal dropouts for single speed riding, with either 120mm (fixed gear) or 135mm (single speed) rear dropout spacing. You can also order Paragon’s Slider or Rocker dropouts, which make it easy to convert your frame to disc brakes, single speed, hub-transmission and a host of other possibilities. We also offer a convertable package, where we add braze-ons for derailleur drive trains to go with the slider/rocker dropouts. Finally, you can order a version designed for the Rohloff 14-speed rear hub.

The matching Fastlane steel fork comes with rugged uni-crown construction with disc mounts and single eyelets for fenders.

The Fastlane comes in several stock colors, with base options changing from month to month. For other ideas, check out our Archived Colors. Recent colors of the month are available for a nominal charge. You can customize colors with a wide range of options, including one-step, two step and special effects colors.
